Last night my friend called me after the Patriots game and asked me if he should come by to remove all of the belts and shoe laces from my apartment. I told him no, I already had my head in the oven for the past half hour, but then I realized it was an electric oven. Oops.
But I’m better today. Really, I am. Yesterday’s game was nothing but a reminder of the days of old. Well, basically every Patriots season prior to last year. The brief days of dominating opponents has taken a back seat to the traditional “grind it out” and win by less than 7 points strategy.
It might not be as exciting, but I’d rather watch 19 hard fought nail biters than a string of blow outs anyway. One thing is for sure though, yesterday’s loss falls on the shoulder of the New England Defense, or lack thereof. Swiss cheese has less holes in it.
Now before all of the bandwagon jumpers go and blame Matt Cassel, I think you should take a look at the Golden Boy’s numbers from 2001. Tom Brady was an astonishing 12-24 for 86 yards and no touchdowns in a 30-10 loss to the Fins. Cassel was 19-31 for 131 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception yesterday.
I’m not saying Matt Cassel is going to pan out to be the next Tom Brady, but I’m not ready to give up on him yet. You’ve seen first hand how a team can win a Super Bowl despite having an underdeveloped Quarterback at the helm. So if you’re still convinced that the Patriots season is over, do me a favor. Give your season tickets to someone who is a real fan, then get in the kitchen and cook me some bacon and eggs.
I’m sure you are not expecting any sympathy for the Pats because, quite simply, they deserve none. If last year’s Super Bowl was instant karma, what’s happened this season is the more traditional variety.
Buffalo is going to win the AFC East this year. And that is wonderful. I just hope that we don’t get all the chowd frontrunners after they jump off the Patsies bandwagon. We don’t want ‘em.
The bandwagon doesn’t jump go from the Pats to another AFC team. The jumpers just go from the Pats to the Red Sox, and then from the Sox to the Celtics.
The East will be decided on 12/28 in Buffalo, which is a long time from now. By the time late December rolls around, there will be two totally different teams on the field, but Buffalo is going to have a huge advantage playing at home in that zoo.
